Dakar and Gorée Island

Most Western point of Africa, Dakar is a crossroads of civilizations. It was the Capital of AOF from 1902 to 1958, date of DeGaulle’s referendum. Dakar is the capital of Senegal since 1960. Great African metropolis, it is a peninsula of 550 km2 and about 2 million inhabitants. You will discover a City of contrasts while visiting residential areas and popular neighborhoods or commercial and administrative places by train or a bus with air conditioner. 

KERMEL Market, the craft village of SOUMBEDIOUNE and the picture gallery are other interesting points in Dakar. 

3 km from Dakar discover Gorée island, small in size but large in history. It witnessed three centuries of slavery. The island is a Unesco World Cultural Heritage. Accessible by multiple rotations by boat, the first attraction of the island is the famous Home of the slaves. It is dated last slavery house from which millions of slaves were deported to the Caribbean and American plantations. Have a walk on the island; visit the Historical Museum and the Sea Museum.
