Nature’s wonder, the pink lake

Lake Retba, better known as the pink Lake, owes its fame to its color that changes from pink to purple depending on the intensity of sunlight, and also to the Paris-Dakar rally. located about 30 km northern east of the capital Dakar, it is one of the most visited sites on the peninsula of Cap Vert. near the lake, many camps welcome visitors. 

the pink Lake is a large and shallow lagoon located a few hundred meters of the ocean and surrounded by dunes and casuarinas trees. It owes its color to the presence of micro-organisms and the high concentration of minerals. Day and night, there prevails an intense activity of hundreds of people engaged in the extraction of salt (300 grams for each liter). Sunk to the waist, the men tore the crust of salt deposited on the bottom and fill the bassines that hold the women at regular intervals on the shore. The collected salt is then sold to men who sell it town.
