Le Sénégal, Pays de la TERANGA
Senegal is at first sight colorful and lively Africa, between tradition and modernity ,with beautiful landscape, baobabs, palm trees, bush and savanna, a wilderness preserved ... But it is also and especially the Teranga, hospitality, happiness and smiling people despite hard living conditions!
Kaleidoscope of lush landscapes and vast expanses with baobab trees, Senegal has an infinite number of natural environments. Located between the Sahel in the north and the vast rain forest, it is crossed by four rivers that originate in the Fouta Djallon in Guinea: the Senegal River which gave its name to the country, the Gambia, the Saloum and the Casamance.
Homeland of the poet-president Leopold Sédar Senghor, member of the French Academy since its withdrawal from politics in 1980.He composed the national anthem. Senegal embodies, quite rightly, by its geographical position and the part he plays in international diplomacy, the living symbol of open-minded civilization.
Senegal is one of the most stable countries on the continent with a great tradition of democracy.
Welcoming, warm and hospitable, it is composed of a variety of ethnic groups and traditions, the land of Wolof, Pulaar (Fulani herdsmen and Toucouleurs of the Senegal River Valley), Soninke, Jola of Casamance, the Serer of Sine and Mandingo, all contributing to the cultural wealth of the country.
